Dr  Lowell Holtz - Candidate for DPI

A guest testimonial by Ed Perkins:

WHY I AM SUPPORTING DR. LOWELL HOLTZ TO LEAD THE WI DEPT. OF PUBLIC INSTRUCTION:

On Feb. 21st primary elections will be held in Wisconsin.  On that ballot we will be voting for the WI Superintendent of Public Schools, DPI.

There will be three candidates on that ballot:

Dr. Lowell Holtz has an exceptional record of innovative leadership in Wisconsin school districts in which he has served.  Dr. Holtz is an opponent of Common Core but a strong supporter of School Choice, Charter schools, private schools, etc.  He takes a very strong position on local control of our K-12 schools.

In the Beloit School System his administrative success, especially with the Latino and African American students, earned him the National Distinguished Principal award from the US Dept. of Education.  He has been endorsed by 8 of our WI legislators to head up the DPI.

Dr. Holtz also had an outstanding administrative record at Whitnall School District in the Milwaukee area from which he recently retired.

Holtz’s web site www.kidservative.org contains info that should lead many to support him.

Dr. Tony Evers has been the head of the WI DPI for 8 years and has been a strong supporter of various federal education programs,  especially Common Core.  In the very last days of Gov. Jim Doyle’s administration in 2009, Tony Evers signed a federal document forcing WI to adopt and support the undefined and almost unknown federal education program we know today as Common Core.  That K-12 education program has had disastrous effects upon our local schools’ curriculum.

Our local schools were forced to adopt and implement this UNTESTED education program.  Like Obama Care, was adopted without knowing what was in it,  the same is true of Common Core.  We had to blindly say yes to an undefined and totally untested educational program because millions of federal dollars were available IF Wisconsin entered into this program.  Dr. Tony Evers, in spite of this disastrous program, is still a supporter of it.

He is also a strong opponent of the School Choice Program and believes he alone has the authority to define the curriculum for our K-12 students in WI and has publicly stated this.

John Humphries who has worked for the DPI in the past is currently working as a Program Director in the Dodgeville school district.  He does not have a PhD.

He sought to have Gov. Walker recalled and signed a recall petition.  He claims today to regret having done this.

He has also supported the elections of President Clinton,  Ms. Burke who ran against Gov. Walker and also Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett who ran against Gov. Walker.  He has never run for public office.  He has never held a high level administrative position.

My hope in presenting the above info is that it leads you to vote for Dr. Holtz on Feb. 21st.
I believe he will bring needed change and leadership to implement that change in our WI Dept. of Public Instruction.  REMEMBER,  the primary election to eliminate one of the above 3 candidates is here in a matter of days.

On Tuesday, Feb. 14th, from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm, at the Appleton Machine Shed Restaurant, Dr. Holtz will be speaking and taking questions from the public.  This event is open to all.

We encourage you and friends to bring your appetite for a sit-down meal at your expense, if you are hungry.  If not, just come and learn why Dr. Holtz is worthy of your support on Feb. 14th.   This will also be a voluntary fund raiser for Dr. Holtz.  If you can’t attend you can donate money to Friends of Dr. Holtz,  P.O. Box 158, Big Bend, WI,  53103.

No, Freedom Jack is not getting his "transgender" on - today we have guest commentary by Barb B.

I am a woman, 76 years old, and a proud American.  I have seen many social changes during my lifetime.  So, when I make certain statements, I am speaking from personal experiences.

In grade school, we proudly said the Pledge of Allegiance every morning.  Today, the “progressives” are trying to eliminate this patriotic tradition.  I am not old enough to remember much about World War II, but I do remember the tremendous patriotism.

I remember Senator Joseph McCarthy warning us about the Communist encroachment.  As I reflect on our current liberal administration, our current educational system, and the effort to disestablish our religious freedoms, I can reflect that his warnings have come to fruition.

As a teenager, the attitude of the American citizen on sex was “abstention until after marriage”.  Today, not only are our teens encouraged to participate in premarital sex, but condoms and abortions are granted without parental knowledge.  In my day, it was customary for sports teams to say a prayer before an event.  Today, that is not only discouraged, but the possibility of prosecution hangs over our teams’ heads.

As a child, and throughout my developing years, Christmas was celebrated as the birth of Christ.  Today, a religious display is not only viewed with contempt by our liberal friends, but must be displayed with displays of non-Christian exhibitions.

In my days, boys went hunting before school and proudly displayed their guns in the back window of their vehicle.  Today, our liberal friends have tried everything in their power to remove the guns from the hands of law abiding American citizens.

Yes, I have seen changes to my beloved country.  Some changes are not only foolish, but darn right dangerous.  May God help and bless America.

immigration  hysteria

Of all the groups melting like snowflakes in the sun over Trump immigration policy, which of them do not employ as many or more of the new immigration policies, in their own lives, in their homes, and in their place of work?

For the Catholics wailing and gnashing their teeth, how many undocumented and un-vetted people make their way into the Vatican?  Will you be welcomed into the few “public” areas (much less the private ones) if you “scale the walls”, or will you be arrested?  How many visitors are allowed to overstay their visit by days, weeks, or years?  How many are allowed to wander around, unaccounted for?

Can you can just wander into the Apple, Google, Facebook, or Microsoft campuses, without permission and identification and an acknowledged purpose, and stay as long as you please?  Can you do this in the city halls, state houses, and governor’s offices in sanctuary cities and states?

How many of these groups allow persons unknown to them to freely wander in and out of their homes and stay as long as they want, help themselves to whatever resources (including bank accounts) the house has to offer?  And then demand you pay for their education and “welfare”?

And if the unauthorized “guests” happen to have a child while in your house or business, would these groups support giving that child constitutionally protected rights to their house, business, and property, for the rest of the childs’ lives.

How many of these groups would not demand enforcement of laws and restrict access if people wandered around their homes and businesses to the tune of 12-20 million unauthorized “guests”?

Don’t be a hypocrite – either support removal of criminals (aka undocumented aliens) or open up your homes and business and resources to all of them, without proper vetting, for as long as they choose to stay.

The vast majority of opponents of illegal immigration fully support the American dream, the idea of a nation of immigrants, a melting pot, the right of anyone to play “who wants to be a millionaire”.  Support the rule of law - if you start the game by breaking the law, why should anyone follow any laws along the way?

We won’t even detail here the hypocrisy with which Mexico vigorously defends its southern border while criticizing us for attempting to do the same.

And finally, what about the hypocrisy of all the trauma over the Trump immigration ban, but not a word is heard about Obama’s out-the-door ban on Cuban immigrants?

marine sanctuary -or- federal land grab

In December of 2014 the state of Wisconsin officially requested that an area of Lake Michigan roughly from Mequon to Two Rivers (up to 1260 square miles) be designated the Wisconsin-Lake Michigan National Marine Sanctuary. The federal Office of National Marine Sanctuaries (within the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) announced in October 2015 its intent to “designate a new national marine sanctuary to help conserve nationally-significant shipwrecks and related maritime heritage resources.”

See
http://sanctuaries.noaa.gov/wisconsin for details.

Claims of value for Wisconsin are, as always, wondrous: enhance heritage tourism, foster education and research partnerships, and enhance economic development. Reportedly this has broad public support from citizens, involved coastal cities, and stakeholders alike.

Some questions not found on the federal website:

  • Hasn't Wisconsin already passed law protecting these historic sites? Why isn't that protection sufficient?
  • Is it true that under marine sanctuary protection, even dropping anchor near a shipwreck can result in hefty fines, even though no damage occurred?
  • Is it also true that accidental fuel spills within the designated area can result in hefty fines?
  • What effect would this designation have on commercial and recreational fishing in the area, which extends roughly 20 miles out from the shore?
  • Is there any end to the federal governments hunger for control over more and more of our land and resources? If there is such an end, define it.
  • Given that the country is already $20 trillion in debt, is this designation sufficiently urgent to justify action at this time?
  • If this has such broad support, why have none of us heard anything about this during the past two years of activity?
  • How much input will citizens of Wisconsin have should the NOAA decide in the future to expand the sanctuary?

NOAA will hold four public meetings in March, with March 31 as the deadline for comments.
Scheduled meetings are as follows:
